The Protected Storage Viewer is one of the utilities
launched from within the Cache
Forensics tool. This tool allows you to view items saved in
the Protected Storage area of the registry which was used
primarily in older operating systems - much less so in
Windows 10. Typical things you will
see are Microsoft Internet Explorer autocomplete fields, Microsoft
Outlook/Outlook Express account information including servers, account
names and passwords. You will see things people consider private
information that was entered into IE autocomplete fields like birthdates,
email addresses, SSN, full names, addresses, etc. It shows whatever
the user of the machine entered.
Special Note: this tool views
the contents of the Protected Storage area of the active registry
for the system the program is running on. This information is
different for each user account on the system. It does not view
non-active registry files from other computers.
